How to protect concrete in hot weather

Summer is the time to activate construction. However, many people are faced with the question of whether it is possible to pour concrete in hot weather. Despite the fact that high temperatures and dry air do not have the best effect on fresh concrete masonry, it is not worth postponing construction work. You just need to follow the recommendations for the care of concrete masonry heat and use special materials to protect it.

How does high air temperature affect concrete?

There are a number of serious problems that arise during the laying of concrete in hot weather due to the heating of the mixture itself, which leads to faster evaporation of water from it. These problems arise both during mixing and laying, and during further care of concrete.

Accelerated hydration due to the increased temperature of the freshly laid concrete mixture leads to faster solidification and further loss of strength of the frozen concrete. In addition, accelerated evaporation of moisture can cause shrinkage cracks in concrete, and further cooling of solid concrete provokes tensile stress. The situation cannot be saved by simply adding more water to the mixture. A violation of proportions, on the contrary, will reduce the quality of concrete in the future, which is why it will be brittle and will last much less.

To offset the negative effects of heat on concrete, it is recommended to use special protective materials, such as Teknokur 100 varnish.

Teknokur 100 – protection of concrete masonry in the heat

Teknokur 100 is an acrylic membrane forming agent that helps prevent moisture evaporation from freshly laid concrete. Due to the fact that this coating forms a moisture-proof film on the concrete surface, water is retained in the concrete mixture. This helps the concrete to gain vintage strength and prevent the risk of shrinkage cracking from the negative effects of high dry air temperature.

You can use Teknokur 100 for:

  • protection of fresh concrete masonry from high temperatures and strong winds
  • maintenance of cement-based repair mixes, including in hard-to-reach areas
  • coatings of concrete surfaces inside and outside premises, including those that are accompanied by a high dynamic load (concrete roads, parking lots, sidewalks, airports, high-rise buildings)
  • protection of the concrete surface hardener

Application features of the Teknokur 100 membrane forming agent

To process fresh concrete masonry outdoors in hot weather, it is recommended to use a special spray gun, which will create a uniform layer. You can also use a roller or brush for application. Before using, the Teknokur 100 membrane forming agent should be thoroughly mixed until completely homogeneous. It is best to apply the composition in two layers with a time interval of 6 hours between applications. This will make it possible to achieve greater effectiveness of the protective layer against moisture evaporation from the concrete mixture. After completion of the work, the inventory and painting equipment must be rinsed with water.
